MTO Exam FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an appointment?
Appointments are strongly recommended to minimize wait times and ensure prompt service. We also accommodate walk-ins, though there may be longer waits during peak hours.
How long does the medical exam take?
Typically, a full MTO medical exam is completed within 20–30 minutes. Certain additional assessments—such as cognitive tests for drivers 80+ or a urine screen—may extend the appointment by a few extra minutes.
What documents should I bring?
Please bring:
- A government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s license, passport).
- Your MTO medical form, if you have already received one from the Ministry.
- Your prescription glasses or hearing aids, if you use them while driving.
A list of current medications and any relevant medical documentation (e.g., specialist reports or test results).
What if I didn’t receive the MTO form in the mail?
No worries—we can provide you with the required form during your visit and guide you through completing it correctly.
What happens if I have an existing medical condition?
We evaluate and document any conditions that could affect your driving fitness. If follow-up or further clarification by the MTO is needed, we’ll advise you on next steps and may recommend treatment, specialist referral, or further medical reporting.
Who is responsible for submitting the exam results?
We submit completed medical forms directly to the MTO on your behalf, ensuring the process stays streamlined and confidential. If you’d prefer to submit the documents yourself, just let us know.
Do you offer workplace or fleet medical screenings?
Yes—we specialize in corporate and fleet medical services. Get in touch for business packages tailored to groups such as school bus companies, transit fleets, or commercial operators.
When do I need to renew my medical exam?
The frequency depends on your age group:
- Age 18–45: every 5 years
- Age 46–64: every 3 years
- Age 65 and above: annually (every year)
Can I walk in for just specific tests like hearing or vision?
While we offer comprehensive MTO-compliant exams, walk-ins for standalone screenings (like vision or hearing) are possible if you specify in advance. Please call ahead to confirm availability.
What tests are included in the exam?
All exams are performed by licensed physicians and may include:
- Medical history review and physical assessment
- Vitals check (blood pressure, weight, height)
- Vision screening (part of the standard check)
- Hearing test, required for Class B, C, E, and F license holders
- Urinalysis, if indicated
- Cognitive screening for drivers aged 80 and over
Are the results confidential?
Absolutely. All medical records and results are handled with strict confidentiality, in compliance with provincial and federal privacy laws.
